I Scream You Scream – part 2

If you tuned into last Monday’s blog post, you learned about Robert McCay Green and his invention of the ice cream soda back in 1874. (If you didn’t, it’s not too late to go back and read it!)

Tomorrow is the day to celebrate his creation. That’s right, tomorrow, June 20 is National Ice Cream Soda Day! (Note: not a real holiday, you have to go to work tomorrow, sorry.)

To celebrate, I have teamed up with my very creative Alaskan friend and Instagrammer, Carissa Pearce, “The Fermented Alaskan“. We decided to come up with some refreshing adult ways to celebrate National Ice Cream Soda Day! Check Carissa’s blog The Fermented Alaskan for her take on adult versions of the ice cream soda.

Here are my suggestions for ways to celebrate. I scream, you scream, we all scream for (boozy adult) ice cream (sodas)! Enjoy!

The Beam Me Up Scotty Soda

  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 3 – 4 oz soda water
  • Star sprinkles (if you have them)

What you do:

  • In a large glass or sundae glass, add the Kahlua, Creme de Cacao, and Banana Liqueur
  • Add the ice cream
  • Top with soda
  • Add sprinkles

  • Stir
  • Enjoy

The Italian Soda

  • 1 oz Aperol
  • 3/4 oz Limoncello
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • 3 – 4 oz soda water
  • Lemon peel (garnish)
  • Sprinkles (why not?!)

What you do:

  • In a large glass or sundae glass, add the Aperol and Limoncello, stir
  • Add the ice cream
  • Top with soda

  • Enjoy

The Negroni Soda

  • 3/4 oz Campari
  • 3/4 oz red vermouth (I used Ransom Sweet Vermouth)
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream

  • Orange peel (garnish) – or if you are out of oranges at the time of creation, a clementine
  • Sprinkles (shiny red if possible)

What you do:

  • In a large glass or sundae glass, add the gin, Campari and red vermouth, stir
  • Add the ice cream
  • Top with soda
  • Give it a stir
  • Add the orange peel and sprinkles
